Our purpose built open-plan offices in Dorking have recently been refurbished. About Democratic and Electoral Services
We cover a variety of different functions within our team: we provide support to elected Members and the Council’s decision making processes, we run all types of elections and referenda as well as providing the Council’s electoral registration services and we oversee Mole Valley’s emergency planning and business continuity functions. Additionally, the team runs the council’s corporate print and postal services.

About the role / About the team
We are looking for two enthusiastic self starters to join our high performing and busy Democratic & Electoral Services Team.
Whilst the primary focus will be on the organisation and delivery of the Council’s Committee meetings, you will be required to support a number of the Council’s working groups, giving you a real insight into the decision making process. This will include the preparation of agendas, advising on procedural issues to ensure we meet our statutory requirements and act in accordance with the Council Constitution, attendance at evening meetings and writing minutes.
To support our elected members, you will also be responsible for providing a high level of administrative support, be this through processing expense claims or further developing the Member Online Support System.
The role will also require you to help the team deliver all elections and support the electoral registration processes, you could also be required to support our busy Emergency Planning and Resilience Officer, ensuring that we are prepared for any emergency situations we may face.
You will be provided with on the job training and there will also be the opportunity for further development.
An attendance allowance is payable for attendance at evening meetings.
The post has been designated as politically restricted under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
We are looking for well organised and dynamic individuals who will support the work of the team in a busy and interesting environment.
You will possess sound judgement, pay attention to details and be aware of political sensitivities.
You will be educated to at least a-level standard or equivalent. Knowledge of local government, the democratic decision making process and the UK electoral system would be a great advantage as would past experience in Local Government or similar.
